Welcome! My name is Stephanie Mainer, and I've been teaching for 14 years. English was always my favorite subject in school, and I truly enjoy working with students so they can develop a love for it as well. When I'm not at school, I'm usually watching my kids play sports. David is 12 and loves basketball & karate, and Isaiah is 9 and plays baseball and football. Isaiah was diagnosed with cancer when he was 3 years old, so I took a semester off to go with him to MD Anderson in Houston, Texas, for surgery and treatment. After several surgeries, he was on chemo for a whole year. He's doing GREAT now, and I've become an advocate for childhood cancer funding and research. I've been to New York City to learn more about treatment options, and I've gone to Washington, D.C. to speak with members of Congress about funding. Ever since I was a little kid, I've wanted to change the world. Between teaching and advocacy, I might just get there one day!
My favorite food is anything Italian. I love Sunkist and Coke. I have a golden retriever named Scout & a kitten named Casper. My favorite author is Karen Kingsbury. We love the Auburn Tigers and go to several football games every season. My kids and I love to travel, and this year we went to the Mayan ruins in Mexico, cave tubing in Belize, and zip lining in Honduras. This November we're going to Philadelphia, and hopefully we'll see the Grand Canyon next year. Bruno Mars is my favorite and I would love to see him in concert one day! I'm an awful dancer, but it's never stopped me from trying. And I love to sing.
